- Fujairah Desalination Plant
Emirates SembCorp Water & Power Company, a joint venture, awarded ACCIONA Agua, in consortium with ACCIONA Infrastructure, a seven-year contract to design, build, commission and operate the expansion of the Fujairah desalination plant, located in the Emirate of the same name.
Over the past few years, Fujairah's coastline has been plagued repeatedly by red tides, causing prolonged periods of fresh water shortage in the area. For this reason, a decision was made to expand the plant in order to ensure the region's water supply. The new plant has been designed to ensure the proper operation of the facility in the event of future episodes of red tide in the area.
The Tampa Bay project is but one of ACCIONA Agua’s 70 reference plants in the sector with a total installed capacity of over 1.6 million cubic meters per day.
The desalination project is a key part of the South Australian government’s Water Proofing Adelaide Strategy. It provides Adelaide with half of its annual water usage and is powered by sustainable energy sources.
