ACCIONA supports Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter in Toronto

15/12/2020

Our Toronto office has donated $3,000 of food, blankets, toiletries and children toys to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter.

Ernestines’ Women Shelter provides support and a safe place for women and children escaping violence.  It offers a lifeline, and provides access to food and shelter. The shelter assists survivors in rebuilding their lives by providing crisis intervention and a range of support services. The shelter’s work is predicated upon the belief that recovery necessitates addressing the range of challenges faced by survivors of abuse.

ACCIONA, a civil engineering company delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions, opened a new office in Toronto this Fall.  Its mission is also to support the communities where their projects take place.  “Donating to an organization in need especially during a pandemic is important,” explained Martin Landry, VP of Business Development North America.  “This has been a challenging time for families.  Celebrating the opening of the office  by supporting Ernestine’s was important for our team”.

The pandemic has accentuated the urgency to support Canadian women experiencing violence.  According to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.  Children who witness violence in the home experience twice the rate of psychiatric disorders as children from non-violent homes, the foundation reported.
