ACCIONA Agua’s ‘Life-OFREA’ Project has received the award for the Best process technology in the WEX Global Innovation Awards conferred during the forum held last month in Lisbon, a reference international event in the field of water and energy.
The award recognizes the most innovative process chosen from the entire water and wastewater treatment spectrum. The projects presented must demonstrate innovative applications of existing processes or new ones throughout the potable water production cycle, up to the treatment and removal of wastewater. The OFREA project, based on hybrid reverse osmosis technology, is a clear example of this. The process collects wastewater in coastal areas and applies advanced desalination technology that re-uses highly saline wastewater at a competitive cost.
ACCIONA Agua R&D Department Director Jorge Malfeito received the prize from the organizers.
The R&D OFREA project, co-funded by the European Commission under the European Union’s LIFE+ programme, was headed by ACCIONA Agua and received support from ESAMUR (The Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment Department of the Region of Murcia).
