On June 30th, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that a consortium comprising ACCIONA, Gulermack of Turkey, and Alstom of France, will be working together to extend the city’s metro network. The contract, worth €2.6 billion, involves the extension of the metro system to Dubai’s Expo 2020 fairgrounds.
The RTA announced the winning bid in a press conference in Dubai, with ACCIONA chairman in attendance.
The project includes extending the current metro network by 15km, including an 11.8km viaduct and a 3.2km underground tunnel. Seven stations will be added, including one interchange station with the existing red line.
ACCIONA, Gulermack, and Alstom were awarded the contract after an international tender process that saw five different consortiums submit bids for the project.
