At ACCIONA, we deliver solutions that address some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges—including water scarcity, access to clean energy, climate adaptation, circular economy development, biodiversity protection, and resilient infrastructure.

As a global leader in sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy, ACCIONA is uniquely positioned to help drive Canada’s transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future. Our projects contribute directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that the infrastructure we design and build supports long-term environmental, social, and economic value.

In Canada, ACCIONA does more than construct roads, bridges, transit systems, water treatment facilities, and renewable energy projects. We focus on delivering solutions that align with Canada’s climate commitments, support Indigenous and local communities, strengthen regional economies, and accelerate the transition to a decarbonized economy.

Access to clean water and sanitation is essential to sustainable development and climate resilience. Across North America, ACCIONA delivers advanced desalination and water treatment infrastructure that strengthens water security, enhances public health and supports long-term environmental stewardship.

Key initiatives include:

  • Saint John Drinking Water Treatment Plant (Canada) — serving approximately 70,000 residents with upgraded water treatment capacity and improved system reliability.

  • Doheny Desalination Plant (USA) — supporting water security in drought-affected regions through a long-term operational model.

  • Large-scale water treatment and desalination facilities that contribute to resilient, sustainable water supply systems across the region.

Water

Climate adaptation is essential to protecting communities and ensuring long-term infrastructure performance in a changing climate. ACCIONA develops resilient infrastructure solutions that safeguard populations, strengthen public assets and integrate low-carbon construction practices.

Key initiatives include:

  • Fargo-Moorhead Flood Diversion (USA) — a 30-year concession protecting more than 250,000 people from flooding and the first U.S. infrastructure project financed through green climate funding specifically designed for adaptation. The project pioneers the use of renewable biofuels in construction and has received international recognition for sustainable finance.

  • Climate-resilient transport and infrastructure assets designed to withstand extreme weather events while reducing lifecycle emissions.

Energy

Sustainable mobility is central to decarbonizing cities and improving quality of life. ACCIONA delivers major transit and transportation infrastructure across Canada and the United States, integrating renewable energy use, innovative delivery models and emissions-reduction strategies.

Key initiatives include:

  • Broadway Subway Extension (Vancouver) — powered by 100% renewable electricity, expanding rapid transit and reducing urban transportation emissions.

  • Pattullo Bridge Replacement (Metro Vancouver) — integrating renewable electricity and biofuels during construction to enhance climate resilience and connectivity.

  • Surrey-Langley SkyTrain (Metro Vancouver) — expanding low-carbon transit infrastructure aligned with regional emissions reduction targets.

  • Ontario Line North (Toronto) — delivered through a progressive design-build model guided by ISO 44001 collaborative standards, significantly reducing travel times and improving system efficiency.

  • SR400 Express Lanes (USA) and Calcasieu River Bridge Replacement (USA) — long-term concessions modernizing critical corridors and strengthening transportation resilience.

Transport

Reliable access to renewable energy and secure water supply are fundamental to sustainable growth. ACCIONA integrates circular economy principles, long-term operational expertise and advanced engineering to strengthen energy and water systems across North America.

Key initiatives include:

  • Site C Dam Civil Works (British Columbia) — strengthening renewable electricity supply for decades while advancing circular economy practices, including recycling initiatives that generated $375,000 for Indigenous and local charities.

  • Doheny Desalination Plant (USA) — supporting water security in drought-affected regions under a 15-year operational model.

  • Large-scale energy and water infrastructure projects that enhance resource efficiency, long-term reliability and climate resilience.

Cities

The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set a shared global agenda to address the most pressing social, environmental, and economic challenges of our time. Achieving these goals requires collaboration across governments, industry leaders, sustainable infrastructure companies, and communities.

ACCIONA is firmly committed to advancing this agenda. Our work across Canada and the United States reflects a long-term commitment to sustainability, climate resilience, and inclusive development. Through our projects, we contribute to key SDGs by delivering solutions that address critical issues including but not limited to:

  • Access to clean water and sanitation — including desalination and water treatment facilities that serve communities across North America.
  • Decarbonization and renewable energy integration — powering projects with 100% renewable electricity and pioneering renewable biofuels in construction.
  • Resilient and climate-adapted infrastructure — from flood protection systems safeguarding over 250,000 people to transit networks reducing urban emissions.
  • Development of safer, more sustainable and connected cities — through low-carbon transit corridors and transportation infrastructure that transforms urban mobility.

Our teams deliver solutions that align with global sustainability frameworks, federal and provincial/state policies, and local community priorities — ensuring that every project contributes to positive environmental and social outcomes.
