ACCIONA joint venture with Samsung uses revenue from Site C recycling program to donate $375,000 to local charities

ACCIONA joint venture on Site C project uses recycling program revenue to donate $375,000 to local Indigenous and non-Indigenous charities in B.C.

Peace River Hydro Partners (PRHP) – the joint venture (JV) between Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc. and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. delivering the Site C Clean Energy Project (Site C) in British Columbia – has reached a significant milestone in its Community Investment Program, donating $375,000 in onsite recycling proceeds to the North Peace Community Foundation (the foundation).

The JV presented a cheque for $25,000 to NPCF Executive Director, Susan Adams at a ceremony attended by Fort St. John Mayor, Lori Ackerman, client BC Hydro, the PRHP project team and ACCIONA representatives.

The cheque is the latest in more than 150 donations made to the foundation by the JV since the project began in 2016.

PRHP’s Communications and Indigenous Relations Manager, Jamie Bodnarchuk spoke about the importance of giving back, and how the JV’s recycling program raises funds for community investment.

“The recycling program is only possible because of the amazing efforts of all our employees. Without them, we would not be able to make these much-needed donations. Since 2016, PRHP has recycled over 1200 truckloads of pop cans and bottles, and 7.2 million pounds of scrap metal, carboard, and other construction waste materials that would have otherwise ended up in landfills… We (the JV) want to leave a positive legacy, and the ‘Building a Better Tomorrow’ endowment is a step towards that goal,” Ms. Bodnarchuk said.

Paperwork to create a legacy endowment fund, titled ‘Building a Better Tomorrow’, was signed by Mayor Ackerman, Ms. Adams and ACCIONA Project Director for Site C, Javier Garcia at the cheque presentation. Distributions from the fund will be split annually between Indigenous and non-Indigenous charities.

The Peace River Hydro Partners joint venture holds the Main Civil Works Contract on BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project.
