The 3 megawatt turbines at Pioneer Grove use an innovative 116 meter rotor to capture more of the available wind energy and increase the production of electricity. The Pioneer Grove Wind Farm will generate enough clean energy to power nearly 4,000 Iowa homes.
The Pioneer Grove Wind Farm utilizes two different tower technologies, which are both suitable for the AW-3000. One tower was constructed to a height of 92 meters, using steel, while the other tower uses an innovative concrete solution and reaches a height of 100 meters..
Pioneer Grove is the first wind energy project in Cedar County. The project generates lease payments for local landowners and tax revenue for Cedar County as well as jobs and economic growth for local contractors and businesses.
The Pioneer Grove Wind Farm is located less than 20 miles from ACCIONA Windpower's wind turbine generator assembly plant in West Branch, IA. This proximity will allow ACCIONA Windpower to manage the operations and maintenance of the wind farm from our existing facility.
“Acciona has been a great partner with the eastern Iowa community by providing good-paying jobs and now clean energy development through the Pioneer Grove Wind Farm. I look forward to their presence expanding further in Iowa.” - U.S. Representative Dave Loebsack (IA, 2nd)
“The AW-3000 turbines at Pioneer Grove produce more power, more efficiently than anything we‘ve installed before. With technology like the AW-3000, we can drive down energy costs and begin to take full advantage of our clean energy resources.” - Joe Baker, CEO, ACCIONA Windpower North America
